A police officer said Sakthivel was held based on a complaint lodged by Lawrence, of Anbu Nagar at Podanur. In his complaint, Lawrence said Sakthivel used to offer loans at lowest interest rate to the people who pledge gold ornaments with his pawn broker shop. Lawrence, the officer said, pledged 15 sovereigns of gold and obtained loan from Sakthivel. “When Lawrence tried to get back his gold by paying the loan amount, he came to know that Sakthivel had sold them to other people.”

Based on Lawrence’s complaint, the district crime branch police registered a case and conducted an inquiry. The preliminary investigation revealed that he had received gold ornaments from various people and sold them to others. A team led by sub inspectors Arun and Lenin subsequently arrested Sakthivel on Wednesday. He was later produced before a judicial magistrate court and lodged in jail under judicial custody.
