Out on bail, quack cancels all his anatomic therapy camps
Coimbatore: Down but not out seems to be the motto of ‘Healer’ Baskar for now.
Baskar was arrested on August 2 after his invite on social media for a camp at his NITSAI International Lifestyle Centre at Kovaipudur on ‘natural and normal deliveries in home without doctors or medication’ went viral.
He was arrested in the wake of the death of a woman in Tirupur a week ago after delivering her baby in home without medical assistance.
After his arrest, Baskar claimed that the action was initiated against him as part of a conspiracy.
“I do not need the media to explain my views. I can speak on YouTube videos and I have followers who will watch and listen to it,” he said.
His website states that all the camps stand cancelled but continues having links to his videos. He has also switched off his mobile number. A police officer at Kuniamuthur station said Baskar had a staff strength of 30 people. “However, now he seems to be in touch with only three people,” said a senior police officer.
His Anatomical Therapy Foundation headquarters and clinic located deep inside Kovaipudur and functioning out of a residential building remain locked during afternoons but opened during evenings. “However, it is open in the evening and has a staff member. Maybe some of his old patients visit for ailments, but they do not get 50 to 60 people every day,” said the officer.
People who call the numbers on his website with health complaints are told to check the 29 videos put up by Baskar on YouTube with a promise that if they follow all his instructions they will get cured. “You cannot see Baskar sir. You watch his videos and even after that if the problem persists, you can call us again,” said one of his staff members who picked up the NISTAI centre’s number.
Health department officials say they are now following the case against Baskar. “Once this case is completed, we will keep an eye out for more such quacks. We take all information about them seriously,” said the joint director of medical services.

Out on bail
now, Baskar seems to have decided to lie low. Extremely vocal about his views regarding the Illuminati controlling the media and used to give interviews to television and web channels freely, Baskar has decided to shut the media out. “I do not wish to speak to the media. They write completely baseless things about me without knowing anything about me, thus I do not want to speakto them,” he told TOI.“I do not need the media to explain my views.
