COIMBATORE: The city is known for its industries and
educational institutions
. Now, it will also be known for its museums. In the last two years, four new museums have come up in the city. Interestingly, three of them are being established by educational institutions.
It all started with the
Geedee Car Museum
that was set up in April 2015. This museum is the first private car museum in South India and was established by the son of famous educationist G D Naidu, Gopal Naidu.
There are at present 55 cars in the museum collected from across the globe. Like his father, Gopal Naidu too has a fascination for cars. This museum records the history of the automobile industry through the last one-and- a-half century. It finds a lot of attraction from tourists and youth of the city.
Soon, the
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University
announced to set up an insect museum on its campus. The professors and scientists of the department of entomology will display their collection of more than 75,000 specimens from nearly 5,000 insects' species. The 5,000sqft building has been finished and is waiting to be inaugurated for the past six months.
Another first-of- its-kind museum is the PSG-GRD Science Museum that was announced by the
PSG Group of Institutions
in December 2015. This museum is being constructed at the PSG iTech campus in Neelambur.
With state of the art architecture and latest technology infused in the museum's design, the PSG group promises to connect students and youth to the contribution of science and technology over the centuries.
