Coimbatore: Volunteers of a city-based NGO are striving to make this Diwali special for the members of an old-age home. They have asked members of the city to come forward and celebrate it with them. The volunteers also gifted new clothes and household equipment to the eight employees of government hospital mortuary before Diwali.
P Mahendran of Eera Nenjam, an NGO, said that the employees of the mortuary had a very tough life and most of them died even before their retirement age.
“The lives of the employees are very tough and they live amidst diseases and infections. Their job is extremely strenuous working with dead bodies, washing them, cleaning them and sometimes it is very depressing. So, we wanted to do something for them. We met them and asked them what they required and arranged for gifts,” he said.
The employees were extremely happy receiving the gifts and many got mixers, pressure cookers, grinders and new clothes.
Eera Nenjam that runs the oldage home located in R S Puram said that they had appealed through a social media video to the families of the oldage home members and to general public to come forward and celebrate the festival with these less privileged people to make them happy. “Many have already contacted us and we will arrange special celebrations at the home, this year,” he said.
