Naan Mudhalvan university operational centre inaugurated at Bharathiar University
COIMBATORE: A Naan Mudhalvan university operational centre (NMUOC) was inaugurated at Bharathiar University in Coimbatore on Tuesday to implement, monitor and coordinate the Naan Mudhalvan scheme in the district.
The Naan Mudhalvan scheme, launched on March 1, 2022, aims at providing integrated skill training programmes to students in higher education, including engineering, arts and science, polytechnic and ITI institutions across Tamil Nadu, without any financial burden. The training is delivered through academicians, industry experts, mentors and administrators to enhance students’ employability skills.
As part of the initiative, NMUOCs were established at 10 state arts and science universities and one technical university at a cost of Rs 1.10 crore. The centres were inaugurated by the deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin through video conferencing from Chennai.
At an event held at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P Rajkumar and district collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar lighted the ceremonial lamp. Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran, Bharathiar University Naan Mudhalvan operational centre officer V Vimala and others were present.
V Kanimozhi, district programme manager, Tamil Nadu Skill Development Naan Mudhalvan, said the NMUOC would function as a nodal centre to streamline implementation of the scheme and integrate industry-relevant skill development courses with university curricula. She added that it would facilitate internships and employment opportunities for students, besides monitoring admissions, skill certification, and placement statistics.
