Murder of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy founder’s daughter: Coimbatore police arrest one suspect

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police on Saturday secured one of the suspects in the murder of R Kasturi, daughter of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy founder Aryavaidyan P V Rama Varier. Kasturi, 82, was found murdered at her residence in a gated community near Nanjundapuram here on Friday.Five people, including a Nepalese woman, were involved in the murder of Kasturi, 82, city police commissioner N Kannan told reporters. The Nepalese woman, identified as Surja Rokey, 37, was working at Kasturi’s house as a domestic help.

Kannan said the five people had planned and executed the crime when the victim’s son, Dr Ram Kumar Kutty, had gone on a foreign trip. A gold chain weighing three sovereigns and cash were missing from the house. The owner of the house had not produced any list of properties lost, he said. They tried to loot valuables and tied the elderly woman’s hands and legs with clothes. They also gagged her mouth with clothes. No visible injuries were found on her body during the postmortem, he said.Kannan said police had obtained important clues, identified all the suspects and secured one man. Deputy commissioner of police G Karthikeyan and his team were camping in Bengaluru to apprehend the remaining suspects, he added.
