tender an unconditional apology for using a derogatory word to describe employees of nationalized banks.
“At the 52nd anniversary celebrations of the

Tamil

magazine in Chennai on May 9, Gurumurthy used the Tamil word to refer to the public sector bank employees in a derogatory manner. He made the remark without the least of restraint and in a callous manner,” the MP said.
While speaking about the nationalized banks at the event, Gurumurthy said many talented employees from the public sector banks were quitting their jobs due to low salary and lack of independence in their work. Subsequently, he used the word to describe them. “In this condition, how could we compete with economies of foreign countries?” he asked.
In a letter to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who was also at the event, Subbarayan said Gurumurthy’s remark had deeply hurt employees of nationalized banks. “The remark has provoked intense anger and anguish among all those who respect and perform their work in their respective spheres. Gurumurthy owes an unconditional apology to the workforce of nationalized banks.” TNN
