Moneylender booked for abetting suicide

Tirupur: A moneylender was booked on Sunday for abetting the suicide of a 58-year-old woman.
Police identified him as Ramar, 40, of Golden Nagar in Tirupur city.
P Rajapandi, 38, owner of knitwear unit AK Text at VOC Nagar on Kongu Main Road, had borrowed 2.3 lakh from Ramar to invest in the business. When he failed to repay the money, Ramar pestered him and his mother Pushpam.He hurled abuses against them in front of their house at Kodikambam on Kongumain Road in Tirupur city.
Unable to bear the torture, the duo attempted to end their lives by consuming rat poison on March 9. They were admitted to the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital. Pushpam died without responding to the treatment on Sunday. Based on a complaint from Rajapandi ’s wife R Dharshini, the Tirupur north police booked Ramar under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
