Missing Perambalur schoolteacher’s car found abandoned in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: The car of a woman schoolteacher from Perambalur district was found abandoned near Ukkadam in Coimbatore city. A hammer with blood stains was found inside the trunk of the car. Blood stains were found inside the trunk too.
Police said Deepa, 42, wife of Balamurugan of Attur Road at Veppanthattai in Perambalur district, was working as a teacher in a government higher secondary school at V Kalathur. She has two children. Deepa went to school on November 15 in a car and she did not return home.
N Venkatesan, 44, of Kurumbalur in Perambalur district, who was teaching in the same school, went missing on the same day.
Deepa’s husband Balamurugan lodged a missing case with the V Kalathur police on November 18. Venkatesan’s wife Gayathri lodged a missing case at Perambalur police station on November 17. The Perambalur police were trying to trace the whereabouts of the two teachers.
The hatchback car used by Deepa was found abandoned in Mohammed Khani Rowthar Street near Ukkadam on Thursday night. Locals said the car had been parked there for three days.
The Big Bazaar Street police and a team from police V Kalathur police station checked the car and found a hammer with blood stains inside the trunk of the car. Deepa’s mangalsutra, silver anklet, debit cards and two mobile phones of Venkatesan were found inside the car.
Sniffer dog Wilma was pressed into service. The dog sniffed the car and ran towards the Ukkadam bus stand. Later, the forensic science experts collected the blood stains samples from the trunk of the car.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the two teachers switched off their mobile phones on November 15.
Police said Venkatesh was facing a loss of more than Rs 30 lakh in share market. He had borrowed a few lakhs rupees from Deepa’s husband.
The Coimbatore city police and the Perambalur district police were investigating.
