COIMBATORE: Police arrested a 35-year-old farmer who opened fire in air using a single barrel breach loading (SBBL) gun to threaten another farmer over a dispute on pathway at Rasichettipalayam near

Pollachi

on Friday.

According to the Pollachi taluk police, N Sakthivel, 26, a farmer from Rasichettipalayam near Pollachi, owns two acres of agricultural land adjacent to 20 acres of land owned by S Surya Sudharshan, 35, of the same locality. Both had a dispute over a pathway passing through both the lands.

Around 9am on Friday, Sakthivel had gone to attend a house warming ceremony and returned to his agricultural field on his motorcycle. He was waylaid by Surya Sudharshan for travelling in the disputed pathway. Irked Surya Sudharshan also snatched the key of the motorcycle and went home.

However, Sakthivel went to Sudharshan's house to get his motorcycle’s key back. When Sakthivel approached Surya Sudharshan at his house, the latter took his father's licenced SBBL gun and opened fire in air to threaten Sakthivel, who fled the spot.

Later, Sakthivel lodged a complaint with the Pollachi taluk police who registered a case against Surya Sudharshan and arrested him. Police also seized the gun from him.
