Man murders wife’s lover, imprisoned

Tirupur: A 45-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for murdering his wife’s lover at 15 Velampalayam in the city.
Police identified the accused as C Sasikumar, a native of Mettu Theru at Andankovil in Thiruvarur district. He was staying in a rental house at Puthu Colony at Thilagar Nagar at Anupparpalayam with his 32-year-old wife Priya and two daughters.
“Sasikumar and Priya were working with a banian company in the city. Priya was in a relationship with their 30-year-old co-worker T Tamilarasan for the past one year. When Sasikumar came to know about the affair, he warned the duo to end the same,” a police officer said.
A native of Thiruvarur district, Tamilarasan was staying with his two sons, mother and younger brother at a rental house on Kaliyamman Kovil Street at 15 Velampalayam after his wife died a few years ago. The officer said Priya used to visit Tamilarasan at his house often.
“On Friday night, Priya left the house on the pretext of going for night duty. When her husband went to the banian company to check on her, she was not there. Sasikumar immediately went to the house of Tamilarasan and found her with her lover,” the officer said.
In a fit of rage, the officer said, Sasikumar hit Tamilarasan on the head with a grinding stone, killing him on the spot, and managed to flee. On hearing the commotion, Tamilarasan’s neighbours rushed to the spot and alerted the 15 Velampalayam police, who sent the dead body to the government medical college and hospital in the city for postmortem.
Police registered a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Sasikumar on Saturday morning.
