SALEM: A man murdered his estranged wife, who was a govt schoolteacher, and their three-year-old daughter before killing self in Salem district on Monday.The deceased have been identified as Srividya, 44, who was teaching in Kamalapuram Government Higher Secondary School near Omalur, her husband, Vijayamurugan, 42, and their daughter, Ashoka Sivasundari. Around 11am on Monday, Vijayamurugan entered the school premises and repeatedly slashed her on the head and neck of Srividya with a weapon. He fled the scene after murdering her. Omalur police recovered Srividya’s body and sent it for postmortem.Later, police found that Vijayamurugan had poisoned his daughter and died by suicide at his house in Omalur. Police recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem.

Police said the couple had been married for 10 years. "Srividya had been living separately in Omalur for about a month," said Omalur DSP Sanjeev Kumar. He added that a prior complaint had been filed at the Tholasampatty police station relating to the disputes between the couple.
