Man held for murder, decomposed body recovered in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: A 55-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for murdering a man and dumping his body in a drainage chamber near Eachanari on September 11.The deceased has been identified as P Balusamy, 41, of Seerapalayam near Madukkarai in Coimbatore district. His wife, Parameshwari, had reported him missing on September 14 to the Madukkarai police. A case was registered, and a probe was on. During investigation it came to light that Balusamy had gone to meet Mahalingam, 55, from Usilampatti in Madurai, before he went missing. On Sunday, police apprehended Mahalingam for questioning, during which he confessed to the crime. "Mahalingam had borrowed 20,000 from Balusamy and not repaid it. On September 11, Mahalingam asked Balusamy to meet him near Eachanari, on the pretext of returning the money. However, when Balusamy met Mahalingam, the latter's paramour was also present, and they consumed liquor together. When a verbal altercation broke out between the duo, Mahalingam attacked Balusamy with a stone, resulting in his death." a police officer said. Mahalingam then placed Balusamy's body in a sack and disposed off it in a drainage chamber near Eachanari, along with the help of his paramour. Following his confession, police retrieved Balusamy's body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.Further investigation is on.
