KRISHNAGIRI: A 32-year-old man riding on a two-wheeler and a spotted deer died after his vehicle hit the animal while it was crossing the Adhiyamankottai-Attibele National Highway in Krishnagiri district on Monday.
The deceased man has been identified as K Vanjikovan of Kottur village in
Dharmapuri district.
The accident happened while he was returning to Hosur from his home. When he reached Beerjepalli, a male spotted deer suddenly crossed the highway from left to right, and the two-wheeler hit the animal. "Vanjikovan, who was thrown off the two-wheeler, died on the spot. The deer also died," said a police official.
On receiving information, the Uddanapalli police reached the spot, recovered Vanjikovan’s body and sent it to the Hosur Government Hospital for postmortem. Forest department officials took the deer’s carcass to a veterinary hospital in Gobachandra. The carcass was buried after postmortem.
People demanded that the forest department install warning signs to prevent accidents as the Adhiyamankottai-Attibele National Highway is a wildlife migration route.
