COIMBATORE: A 46-year-old woman was hacked to death by her husband after a petty dispute at Nehru Park Street near Singanallur on Monday afternoon. Police arrested the accused and recovered a sickle used in the murder.

Ganeshan, 55, of Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district. He along with his wife Ponnuthai, 46, and sons
Madan Kumar, 25, and
Arun Kumar, 18, resided in a rental flat at Pushpavalli Apartments at Varadharajapuram Medu near Singanallur for a past one year.
While Ganeshan worked in a bakery, his wife was a homemaker. Madan Kumar works in an IT firm and his brother is a student.
Police said Ganeshan often quarrelled with his wife and sons without any reasons and assaulted them.
“Around 1.45pm on Monday, during one such quarrel, Ganeshan picked up a sickle and hacked his wife. Ponnuthai sustained injuries on her face and back side of the head and died on the spot. Their elder son found the body and alerted the neighbours,” a police officer said.
After being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem. They registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Ganeshan.
