Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam workers demand regularisation of service
Coimbatore: A group of workers from the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' (MTM) scheme staged a protest in the city on Monday, demanding a wage hike and job regularization. Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Workers' Association district president Krishnamoorthy said, "We are categorized as mere volunteers despite offering critical healthcare at the doorstep. We demand the government to recognize us as health department personnel and to have our services regularized."

The workers have put forward a 15-point demand, which includes a monthly pay of ₹15,000, provision of maternity leave and gazetted government holidays, and provision of at least two sets of uniforms per year.
