Coimbatore: Two ganja peddlers were arrested with 14kg of ganja in Sulur here on Monday. A car used to smuggle the ganja, and 1.40 lakh in cash were also seized. Police said the duo had procured the contraband from
Andhra Pradesh and brought it to the city for illegal sales.
The arrested were identified as K Selvam, 45, from Theni district, and R Pradeep, 45, from Kerala.
Sulur police inspector Mathaiyan and team apprehended the duo when they conducted a vehicle check at Muthugoundenpudur near Sulur, following a tip off on ganja smuggling. They were produced before a judicial magistrate and later remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, district superintendent of police Dr K Karthikeyan has warned that stringent action would be taken against those engaging in the sale of drugs and indulging in anti-social activities. The Coimbatore rural police have requested people to contact their control room at 94981-81212 and WhatsApp number 77081-00100 to report such incidents.
