Leopard spotted in Kuniyamuthur, camera traps fixed

Coimbatore: The forest department fixed camera traps at Kuniyamuthur here on Monday, after locals alerted them of a leopard being spotted in a residential area.Frontline staff from Madukkarai forest range visited residential areas including J J Nagar, Abhirami Nagar, MS Avenue, MS Park, KMR Nagar, MS Garden, Sengulam and Sundakkamuthur over the last two days. Forest staff checked abandoned buildings, sheds, and bushes in the localities. Officials said they were not able to find any pug marks or other traces of a leopard. However, they stumbled upon some very old pug marks of a wild animal, near JJ Nagar. Range officer, Madukkarai forest range, R Arun Kumar said, “We have fixed two pairs of camera traps at JJ Nagar, near Kuniyamuthur to trace the movement of any wild animal.”
