and laugh till their sides hurt.

Laughathon

, the city’s well-known annual comedy event, which attracts some of the best known comedians in the country like Mumbai-based Sumukhi Suresh, Nitin Mirani and Aadar Malik, promises to be a four-hour non-stop laugh riot. As an additional bonus, a few Chennai-based artists will also participate, and the audience can anticipate some Tamil-English jokes too.

, the 10th edition of Laughathon will be conducted on Sunday, December 11 at

Le Meridien Hospital

. “The event usually goes on for two days. We have condensed it to one day but we are offering the same content,” said event coordinator, Tarun Shah. Twelve artists will perform at the event.

This year, the Laughathon organisers have also added a 40-minute play titled “Tale of a Tall Girl” by Chennai-based theatre group, Evam. “We have always avoided a play because we had an acoustics problem, but we have spoken to the theatre group and they seem to have worked out a solution,” said Shah. “The play is based on a real life story and blog by a Tambrahm girl who is in the arranged marriage market. The story is about her search for a groom and whether she will find one,” said the co-founder of Evam and director of the play, Sunil Vishnu K. “We performed a small version of the play at Short and Sweet and it won best play,” he said.

The event, like many of its earlier editions, features some of the top stand-up comedians who are performing across the country. Bangalore-based stand-up comedian, Sumukhi Suresh, who recently moved to Mumbai, will be performing a 30-minute set which will include English comedy with Tamil interspersed in between. “It will include stories with a lot of characters and voices, so people can get to enjoy many stories through different characters,” says Suresh. “ My audience has so far loved what I have offered,” she says.
