Land surveyor held for taking bribe in Tiruchengode

Namakkal: Sleuths from the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) arrested a land surveyor in Tiruchengode, in Namakkal district, for accepting a bribe of 9,000, on Saturday.The accused surveyor has been identified as S Boopathy, 36, of Tiruchengode.A DVAC official said K Vijayakumari, 36, had approached Boopathy at the Tiruchengode taluk office, for land measurement on Friday. Boopathy demanded a bribe of 9,000 to perform the survey.Unwilling to pay the bribe, Vijayakumari filed a complaint with Namakkal DVAC DSP Subashini on the same day. The DSP then organised a sting operation targeting Boopathy. Following their instructions, Vijayakumari returned to the office on Saturday and handed over chemical coated currency to Boopathy as bribe. The DVAC team arrested the surveyor red-handed when he accepted the bribe. Boopathy was produced before the Tiruchengode sub-court, and latter lodged at the Salem Central Prison.
