Coimbatore: C Dhanapal, the younger brother of Kanagaraj who worked as a driver for former chief minister J Jayalalithaa and died in a road accident, developed sudden chest pain on Saturday and was admitted to the Salem government hospital for treatment.
He had recently appeared before the special investigation team of the CB-CID in connection with the Kodanad heist cum murder case and returned to his hometown in Salem.
On Saturday morning, he developed sudden chest pain after which his family rushed him to the hospital. His condition is said to be stable.
Sources said Dhanapal was arrested by the Salem police a few months ago in connection with a land grabbing case, before being released on conditional bail. He had developed chest pain due to a block and underwent angioplasty when he was in jail. Earlier in 2021, he was arrested for destroying evidence in connection with the Kodanad case.
Dhanapal had appeared before the investigating officer Murugavel at the office of the CB-CID at Gandhipuram here on Sptember 14 and was let off the same evening, following an inquiry. He told media persons that more than 50 people, including prominent figures from the AIADMK and police personnel from the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Salem districts had links to the Kodanad case.
