Coimbatore: The city police on Wednesday arrested founder-president of Sashti Sena Hindu Makkal Iyakkam ‘Athiradi’ Saraswathi for releasing a video threatening Toronto-based filmmaker Leena Manimekalai, who directed a documentary film named ‘Kaali’.
Sarasawathi, 46, from Chokkampudurnear Selvapuram in the city, was booked under sections 294 (b) and506(i) of the Indian Penal Code.
Recently, Leena Manimekalai shared the poster of her documentary ‘Kaali’ on Twitter courting controversy. The poster shows the goddess smoking and holding an LGBTQ flag in her hand.
On Tuesday, Saraswathi released a video abusing Leena Manimekalai with foul language and threatening her with dire consequences. The video went viral on social media.
Selvapuram police special sub-inspector Selvakumar received the video and lodged a complaint against Saraswathi. Police registered a case and arrested Saraswathi from a women’s hostel in Tirupur on Wednesday morning. She was produced before a judicial magistrate and later remanded in judicial custody. tnn
