Intra-departmental probe gives clean chit to ACP
COIMBATORE: Senior police officers have given a clean chit to the assistant commissioner of police who was accused of molesting a woman cop during an anti-NEET protest here.
Deputy commissioner of police (law&order) S Lakshmi conducted an inquiry with the woman cop, the accused ACP and a few other policemen, who were on the spot during the protest and submitted a report to the commissioner of police A Amalraj on Thursday evening.

The report will be sent to the director general of police (DGP) TK Rajendran, police sources said.
A police team led by assistant commissioner of police (law&order – central sub-division) R Jayaram was trying to remove protesters from Gandhipuram Road on Monday, when the incident allegedly happened. A video taken during the protest purportedly showed the ACP touching the woman sub-inspector inappropriately. It soon went viral on social media websites and WhatsApp.
Subsequently, police commissioner Amalraj ordered the deputy commissioner of police to investigate the matter. According to sources, all those who underwent the inquiry said that there was no ill-intention and that the ACP was struggling to control the protesters. The woman sub-inspector also said that she was not aware about the incident till she saw the footage. She also gave a clean chit to the ACP, sources added.
