Three of the detained people were carrying fake Aadhaar cards claiming they were issued by competent authorities in India. None of them carried any valid documents including passports.

The IB team accompanied by a district police team visited Periyakanganankuppam village near Cuddalore town on Friday after the intelligence sources revealed that a few people staying in the village frequently made international calls for longer duration to foreign countries including Bangladesh.

The two teams, which reached the hamlet, raided a house after learning from the residents that a few strangers, including two women and a child, rented the house and have been residing there for the past one-and-half years. The members of the teams also learned that the ‘strangers’, who can speak only Bengali and

Hindi

, never interacted with the neighbours.

They raided the house and found that three men, two women and a three-year-old were staying there. On initial inquiries, they gave contradicting answers but subsequently revealed that they hail from Bangladesh and admitted to infiltrating into India and managing to reach the Tamil Nadu village.

, 25.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that two more Bangladeshi nationals were staying with them and the IB sleuths have launched a hunt for the duo. The residents have told the investigation agency that they rarely stepped out of the house during the day but ventured out during the night. They used to receive guests mostly during the weekends.

The agency has also launched inquiries with the owner of the house who offered his premises on rent for them.
