I-T officials raid BJP functionary’s house in Salem
SALEM: Sleuths from income tax department raided a marriage hall and house of a BJP functionary in the city on Monday. The city police have seized Rs 20.55 lakh in new currencies from him on Saturday night.

At the same time, he failed to produce documents for the amount when police asked for proper documents. “Arun kept Rs 20.55 lakh new currencies including 926 numbers of new Rs 2000 notes and 1,530 numbers of Rs 100 notes and 1,000 numbers of Rs 50 notes in the bag,” the police said. Arun failed to provide information on how he got Rs 2,000 notes in such large numbers. Meanwhile, the police handed over the cash to treasury officials at Salem collectorate on the same night. Later, the officials alerted I-T department over the incident on Sunday.
