HM, BJP members held for ransacking tailor shop, locking up owner
Coimbatore: A Hindu Munnani (
The Annur police identified the accused as K Tamilselvan, 24, of Pillaiyappampalayam near Annur, and 43-year-old D Sasikumar, of Kottampatti. While Tamilselvan is Annur south union vice-president of Hindu Munnani, Sasikuamr is a BJP member.
It is to be noted that the Hindu Munnani had called on the shops to down their shutters on March 6 to condemn the attack on its district secretary Anand. However, the protest was later postponed to March 7. Unaware of this, shopkeepers in Annur didn’t open their outlets on March 6.
A police officer said, “When Ananda Krishnan, a Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam member, opened his tailor shop, a group of Hindu Munnani and other Hindu outfit members asked him to down the shutters. When he refused, they ransacked the shop and locked him inside.”
Ananda Krishnan lodged a complaint with the Annur police, who booked Tamilselvan and Sasikuamr under Sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested them on Sunday. The two were subsequently lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison under the judicial custody.
