Heart and lung transplantation: Coimbatore PSG Hospitals, Chennai’s MGM Healthcare sign MoU

KMCH Hospital too which has performed five heart transplants so far, is yet to perform heart and lung transplants together.
The district has had three lung transplants cases so far. This was despite them having dedicated surgeons, anaesthetists, intensivists and perfusionists technicians among others.
The MoU will facilitate the clinical team from MGM Healthcare to closely work with the clinical team at PSG Hospital to provide treatment options for patients in both hospitals. MGM Healthcare has performed almost 100 heart and lung transplants until now.
It also aims at treating chronic heart and lung patients, who require a transplant of both organs, in the city.
“Recruiting these patients, maintaining them carefully till they receive a suitable cadaver and then putting them on immunosuppressants is crucial for them to have good success and survival rates,” said senior consultant for cardiology and heart failure at MGM Healthcare,
