Coimbatore: The city police arrested a 22-year-old goldsmith in West Bengal on Sunday for stealing 327 gram of gold from an ornament manufacturing unit here in November last year. Police have recovered 82 gram of gold from him.
The RS Puram police identified the arrested as T Kush Dule, a native of Baidyapur in West Bengal.
An investigation officer said two more people - Babu Sona Samanthar and Shamar - from West Bengal were also accused in the case. “They are on the run. All the three have been booked under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.”
The officer said the three guest workers were employed with the gold ornament manufacturing unit of K Ramesh Babu, 46, on TK Street in the city. They were all goldsmiths.
“Babu gave 327 gram of gold ingot to Samanthar on November 3, 2022. The trio went missing with the gold ingot on November 5. Babu tried to trace their whereabouts, but in vain,” the officer said.
On December 22, he said, Babu lodged a complaint with the RS Puram police, who registered a case against the trio. “We sent a special team to West Bengal to nab the accused.”
The team nabbed Dule from West Bengal on Sunday and brought him to Coimbatore city on Monday. Further investigation is on.
