Govt schoolteacher in Salem suspended for involving in political activities during school hours

Salem: A government schoolteacher was suspended on Monday for being involved in political activities relating to the AIADMK, during school hours. He had also attended a felicitation event held for EPS in Mecheri on Sunday. The teacher, identified as Thambaiyah, also known as R Seetharaman, was employed at the Panchayat Union Middle School in Ariyampatty near Tharamangalam. He has also been the coordinator for the Cauvery River Surplus Water Action Movement for over two decades. District educational officer (DEO) for primary education A Raju said a departmental inquiry had already been initiated against Seetharaman, following complaints about his involvement in the party activities of the AIADMK during school hours. The complaint was lodged on November 13. "Following this, we began a departmental inquiry against Seetharaman which revealed that he was also communicating with AIADMK members via mobile phone and using his laptop instead of conducting classes."Meanwhile, photos and videos of Seetharaman welcoming AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami at a felicitation event in Mecheri on Sunday were circulated widely on social media. Based on the inquiry findings and the viral content, the DEO issued a suspension order to Seetharaman on Monday evening under the Tamil Nadu Civil Services Rules (discipline and appeal) of 1955.
