On Saturday, the Salem railway division installed the Southern Railway’s first-ever BMI kiosk at Salem Junction. While inaugurating the kiosk, divisional railway manager U Subba Rao had unveiled the plans to set up a total of 13 kiosks in 11 railway stations in the division. “We will earn Rs4.5 lakh as annual licence fee from the contract.”

The body mass index is calculated by taking into account a person’s height and weight. The machine would inform the users whether they fall in the weight bracket, which is considered healthy, or they are underweight or overweight and obese, helping them set targets for themselves and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

“The kiosks will also be used to display passenger safety information, features of railway station, daily weather report, platform way finder, help lines, important railway information and commercial advertisements,” U Subba Rao said.
