COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore rural police arrested a ganja peddler on Sunday evening. They seized 25 kg and 650 grams of ganja from him.
Karumathampatti police inspector Rajadurai, sub-inspector Jaganathan and team got a tip-off about the ganja sale on the high-level flyover across the Noyyal river at Somanur on Sunday evening. The police team rushed to the spot and found P Murugasamy, 33, of Keerapatti near Usilampatti in Madurai district with the contraband items.
The police seized 5.650 kg of ganja and a moped from him.
During inquiries, police came to know that Murugasamy was engaged in construction work and staying in a rental house at Mangalam in Tirupur district. He was taken to the rental house where the police found 20 kg of ganja, and the police seized the contraband items.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Murugsasamy was facing three ganja cases in Usilampatti police station in Madurai district. His roommates R Rajeshkannan, 42, and P Kasi alias Kasirajan, both hailed from Madurai, were also engaged in ganja sale. They had gone to attend Chithirai Thiruvizha in Madurai.
Murugasamy told the police that they procured ganja from
Andhra Pradesh and sold it to many youngsters at Karumathampatti, Somanur, Sulur, Chettipalayam and surrounding areas.
A special team has been sent to Madurai to nab the two other ganja peddlers.
