was hacked to death by two men at Kanthan Nagar extension at Nallampalayam here on Monday evening over a land dispute.
A resident of Saravanampatti, Ponnusamy was functioning as the district secretary of DMDK a few years ago. He quit politics and was engaged with real estate business. He was running a document writing office as well.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Ponnusamy had given power of attorney of a property to a person named Muthukumar and received 50 lakh from him. A month ago, Ponnusamy repaid the amount to Muthukumar and cancelled the power of attorney of the property. There was a previous enmity between the two over the property.
On Monday evening, Muthukumar asked Ponnusamy to visit the plots located at Kanthan Nagar extension at Nallampalayam. Immediately, Ponnusamy and his office typist Sripriya had gone to the area in a car. After reaching the spot, Sripriya stayed in the car while Ponnusamy went to meet Muthukumar and another person MG Rajan. Suddenly, Ponnusamy was hacked to death by Muthukumar and Rajan. Ponnusamy suffered more than 20 cut injuries on his abdomen, neck and other parts of the body and died on the spot.
As Sripriya raised an alarm, the murderers fled the spot. Meanwhile, the locals informed 108 ambulance services who declared him dead.
Immediately, the Thudiyalur police sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
Police have collected CCTV footage from the locality. Police secured Muthukumar and Rajan at night and further investigation is on.
