COIMBATORE: The Saravanampatti police in the city arrested five youths on charges of peddling LSD stamps (a synthetic drug) to college students in the city.
The arrested youths have been identified as S Pranesh, 20, of Vadavalli, R Revanth, 23, of Ganapathy, J Felix Pradeep, 25, of Rathinapuri, Hari Prasath, 20, of Maniyakarampalayam, and Varshath, 22, of Palladam.
Beat officers attached to Saravanampatti police station were involved in patrolling on Sunday night. They found Pranesh, Revanth and Felix sitting on an isolated plot of land and consuming alcohol. The beat officers interrogated them and found LSD stamps in their possession. The cops took their mobile numbers and addresses and asked them to visit the station on Monday morning. Later, police examined the LSD lambs and confirmed them as a synthetic drug.
On Monday morning, police arrested the youths and investigated. Cops found that two others -- Hari and Varshath -- were also involved in drug peddling. They were arrested on Monday. Police seized a total of 51 stamps weighing around 700 mg from all of them.
According to a senior police officer, history-sheeter V Amarnath, who was recently arrested for drug peddling, had given the stamps to Pranesh for sale before going to prison. “Pranesh and others were peddling the LSD stamps to college students in the city. They were selling a stamp for Rs 1,500–3,000,” the officer said.
