Farmer tries to commit suicide

TIRUPUR: A 35-year-old farmer attempted to commit

suicide

after the police allegedly tried to seize pots and other articles used for illegal toddy tapping near Palladam in

Tirupur

district on Wednesday.

He consumed pesticide and was admitted to a private hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

Mayilsamy alias Mahesh of

Manjappur Road

at Kamanaickenpalayam was allegedly tapping toddy in his coconut farm. When a few policemen reached Mayilsamy’s farm and allegedly tried to seize pots and other articles utilized for the tapping on Wednesday morning, he consumed poison to stop their action, said a farmer.

On seeing it, the police went away and Mayilsamy was rushed to the hospital in Palladam.
