COIMBATORE: A 52-year-old

farmer

, his

son

and a relative were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into a truck on Pollachi-Palakkad Road near Dharmapuram bridge on Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as S Subramaniam and his son S Naveenkumar, 24, from Maarappampalayam in

Erode

and their relative S Kandasamy, 55, of Velappampalayam near Kodumudi in Erode.

“Naveenkumar was working as a collection agent in a private chit fund firm. The trio was returning from a hospital in Palakkad, where Naveenkumar was taking treatment for a medical condition. Kandasamy, a truck driver, was behind the wheel. When they reached Dharmapuram bridge, Kandasamy lost control over the vehicle and crashed into a truck carrying cement on the way to Palakkad. The front portion of the car was mangled. Subramaniam and Kandasamy were killed on the spot. Naveenkumar was rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital, where he was given first-aid and was referred to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. But he died on the way to the hospital,” a police officer said.

The bodies were handed over to the family after postmortem on Sunday afternoon.

Traffic was affected on the stretch for more than half-an-hour. The Pollachi taluk police removed the vehicles from the road.

Police have registered a case against truck driver S Unnikrishnan of Palakkad.
