The elephant, with wounds to its right hind leg, was not able to move when the forest field staff spotted the animal in the reserve forest on Monday. A Sukumar, forest veterinary officer with Coimbatore forest division, and team subsequently cleaned the maggots and pus from the wound and dressed it up after applying medicines.

in Namakkal examined the elephant and provided treatment.
