Election flying squad seizes 500 kg of banned gutkha in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: An election flying squad seized more than 500 kg of banned gutkha from a goods autorickshaw near Poosaripalayam in the city on Wednesday morning.The flying squad intercepted a goods autorickshaw going from Karamadai to Kalampalayam. The team found 523 kg of banned gutkha products in it. Police seized the contraband, registered a case and arrested driver S Isravel, 32, of Tirunelveli.In Coimbatore South constituency, where DMK candidate V Senthil Balaji and AIADMK candidate Amman K Arjunan are contesting, a flying squad seized Rs 63,100 cash and 102 power banks worth Rs 1.73 lakh. The seized products were handed over to the returning officer.Flying squads seized liquor worth Rs 9,561 and Rs 19.59 lakh in cash in the 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district, from 6am on April 7 to 6am on April 8.
