Drunk Coimbatore youth goes to girlfriend's home to wish her on her birthday, murdered by her relative
COIMBATORE: A 21-year-old youth was murdered by his girlfriend’s relative at Mayiladumparai in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu when he reached her home around 12.15am on Monday to wish her on her birthday.
The deceased has been identified as V Prasanth of Gandhi Nagar at Sundarapuram in Coimbatore city. He was working as a loadman in a private company. He fell in love with an 18-year-old girl three years ago. Their parents came to know about the love affair and decided to conduct their marriage one year later.
Prasanth used to speak to his girlfriend over the phone daily. But her father had not allowed her to speak with Prasanth for the last two days, police said.
Prasanth decided to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday in the early hours of Monday. He went to her residence at Vasantham Nagar at Mayiladumparai along with his three friends -- Dharani Prasanth, Gunasekaran and Abhishek -- on a scooter. Prasanth was under the influence of alcohol.
The four youths jumped the compound wall and knocked on the door. Her father and her mother’s cousin, M Vignesh, 29, a call taxi driver, opened the door. Prasanth called his girlfriend to greet her. Vignesh picked up a quarrel with Prasanth and his three friends.
In a fit of range, Vignesh took a sickle and assaulted Prasanth on his left chest and left shoulder. The friends took Prasanth on the scooter to hospital. When they reached near Sundarapuram, the vehicle ran out of petrol. They contacted 108 ambulance service and took him to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The Chettipalayam police registered a case against Vignesh and arrested him.

First thing is it's not a Girlfriend but a fiancee, if I go by this report. Probably having come to know that his future son in law is a regular contributor to the state treasury, the would be father in law wanted him to be ex-fiancee. And when this would be ex-fiancee came after some additional contribution to exchequer (as a Gift to Government, on the occasion) with three more such contributors, naturally no Father In Law could be happy, finding his SIL is not saving enough for his future family. Incidentally (most likely considering the marriage equations in down south) another potential son-in-law (considering the age he should be) was there, and he disliked not only the competitor, but what was happening even more and wanted to be numero uno and he made the Current as permanently Ex. Whom to blame ? Certainly not Government who accepted the gift. Nor the one (or four) who had so diligently been giving and even on that night given this gift to the government. What about the one who didn't contribute ? They too have alibi - four tresspassers at late night, could have been robbers.Read allPost comment
