. “Problems started a year into the wedding when my daughter became pregnant.”

Boopathi, the complaint said, started harassing Sudha demanding gold ornaments weighing 15 sovereigns and cash to purchase a two-wheeler. Subsequently, her parents lodged a complaint with an all-woman police station in Salem and a first information report was registered against him. However, they withdrew the complaint based on Boopathi’s request.

After the incident, Sudha, along with her baby girl, moved to her parents’ house in Salem. When she found it difficult to afford her daughter’s school fees, Sudha filed a petition before the Salem mahila court in 2017, seeking jeevanamsam from Boopathi.

The complaint was withdrawn in May this year as Boopathi assured to take care of both his daughter and wife. Following this, Sudha and her daughter moved to Boopathi’s house at Gandhipuram.

Months after they started to live together, the compliant said, Boopathi and his family members again started to assault Sudha demanding dowry.
