DMK stages protest seeking justice for injured woman

Coimbatore: DMK cadres staged a protest in the city on Thursday demanding action against the AIADMK men, who planted party flagpoles along the Avinashi Road.
The protesters, led by Singanallur MLA N Karthik, alleged that the flagpoles led to the accident that grievously injured a woman on Monday. The protest was held despite police denying permission.More than 300 DMK cadres, former minister Pongalur N Palaniswamy and the MLA were arrested and later let off by the police.
Anuradha, a 31-year-old woman riding a two-wheeler, was run over by a truck on the Avinashi Road on Monday, leaving her with fractured legs. While police arrested the truck driver, accusing him of negligent driving, DMK men alleged that AIADMK flagpoles along the road tilted, scaring Anuradha, leading to the fall. She is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Karthik, who led the protest in front of the south taluk office, charged that police are hand in glove with the ruling party to protect the AIADMK men, who had erected the flagpoles.
The protesting cadres held placards that had photograph of Anuradha and raised slogans demanding justice for the injured woman.
“The state government should also give adequate compensation to Anuradha,” Karthik said and urged that the Madras High court should intervene in the issue.
