DMK councillors bag standing committee chairperson posts

Coimbatore: All the DMK candidates contesting for the chairmanship of the six standing committees of the city corporation were elected unopposed on Thursday.The election was supposed to take place at the Victoria Hall, but the three women and three men candidates were elected unopposed. While Deepa Thalapathi Elango was elected as chairwoman of the accounts committee, P Mariselvan was elected chairman of the public health committee and Malathi Nagaraj as head of the education committee.

was elected as the head of the tax and finance committee while Somu alias Santhosh was elected as chairman of the town planning committee and Shanthi Murugan as the head of the work committee. City corporation commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara handed over the certificates to the elected chairpersons.M Rajendran was appointed as a member of the appointment committee, which will be headed by the mayor.Nominations for Thursday’s election were received till Wednesday noon.
