Diwali rush: TNSTC to run 2,695 special buses from Coimbatore; departure points announced
COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) would operate 2,695 special buses and additional bus services from Coimbatore district to various other districts between Oct 17 and 20 ahead of Diwali, said on Wednesday.
The collector chaired a meeting at the collectorate to discuss special bus services and transportation arrangements for passengers travelling to other districts during the Diwali festival.
In a press release, the collector said buses to Madurai, Theni, Dindigul and other southern districts would depart from the Singanallur bus stand. Buses to Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Karaikudi and Karur would be operated from the Sulur bus stand. Services to Ooty, Coonoor, and Gudalur will depart from the new bus stand at Saibaba Colony. Buses to Mettupalayam, Sathyamangalam, Erode, Salem and Tirupur will depart from the Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand.
Buses to Pollachi, Udumalpet, Palani, and Palakkad will be operated from the Ukkadam bus stand.

The collector instructed transport corporation officials to operate additional town buses for passengers arriving in Coimbatore during the Diwali festival time to facilitate their travel to different parts of the city.
All private omnibuses operating to other districts during the festival should pick up passengers only from the designated area in Codissia grounds, he said.
He said a regional transport officer should be appointed to address complaints about excessive fares charged by omnibuses during the festive period. Senior officers should be deployed on shifts at each bus stand to handle public grievances and manage additional bus operations, he said.
