COIMBATORE: A police constable attached to the Erode armed reserve police, attempted to commit suicide by slitting his throat on Wednesday night. He sought leave from the higher officials.

However he was deployed for three days of bundobust duty for Mahashivratri in Coimbatore district. He became depressed and attempted to end his life.

The cop has been identified as Parthiban, 33,. He was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

According to sources, more than 4000 police personnel were deployed ion various stretches in view of Mahashivratri celebration at Isha Yoga centre held in Coimbatore district on Wednesday night.

Police personnel from the neighbouring districts were also deployed for duty as Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Isha Yoga Centre on Wednesday evening.

The police constable Parthiban who was working as a driver for the District Crime Records Bureau Deputy Superintendent of Police Thangavel. He allegedly demanded the higher authorities leave for a few days for his personal work.

However he was deployed for bundobust duty at Madvarayapuram in Coimbatore district on Wednesday night.

He was under severe depression and slit his throat by using a knife. Other policemen who were deployed for work at the area, rushed the injured person Parthiban to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

However Coimbatore city police said that the gop gave sureties to his three friends who borrowed loans from private money lenders and he had given sureties in his name.

His friends allegedly failed to pay the loan amount and he was forced to pay the amount as he gave the surities. Meanwhile he has family dispute also. These two incidents forced him to take his life. Further investigation is on.
