COIMBATORE: In the wake of frequent accidents involving two-wheeler riders, residents and industrial workers have condemned the Coimbatore corporation’s negligence in repairing the damaged roads in Chinnavedampatti area.
As many as four accidents happened on the Chinnavedampatti - Udayampalayam Road in the last 10 days. On Tuesday, three teenagers riding on a two-wheeler fell into a water-filled pothole on the road.
The road was damaged during the installation of a pipeline for the 24/7 water supply more than eight months ago. However, it has not yet been repaired.
According to residents, around 400 vehicles use this road to reach Saravanampatti, where many industries are operating.
The Urumandamapalayam Road and the Anjugam Nagar Road are also yet to be repaired.
A resident of Chinnavedampatti said, “Despite multiple representations to officials, no action has been taken. The road is constantly slippery and waterlogged. This has resulted in frequent two-wheeler accidents.”
N Deva Kumar, president of the Chinnavedampatti Industrial Association, pointed out that neither warning signs nor barricades had been placed.
“Water stagnation occurs due to frequent pipe damage, which the corporation fails to rectify. Despite multiple appeals to officials, they haven’t taken any steps to relay the road. Many school and college students use this route daily, making it extremely dangerous.”
“Late on Tuesday evening, corporation workers placed an old barricade, which will likely fall soon, bringing us back to square one. Will the corporation only respond when something serious happens and they’re held accountable?” he added.
