Coimbatore: Couple from tribal settlement die after jumping into well

COIMBATORE: A 25-year-old man and his 22-year-old wife committed suicide by jumping into a well at Thevampadi Valasu near

Vadakkipalayam

on the city’s outskirts on Sunday night.

The Vadakkipalayam police identified them as T Prabhukumar and P Nandhini, from the Saralipathi tribal settlement in

Anaimalai

. “The couple had been married for five years and has a three-year-old son. They were working as farm labourers at the farm of G Muruganandam at Thevampadi Valasu near Vadakkipalayam and were staying in a house in the farm,” a police officer said.

The couple used to have drinks together. “On Sunday night, a fight broke out between them after a drinking session. Nandhini came out of the house and jumped into a well. Prabhukumar followed her,” the officer added.

Fire and rescue service personnel retrieved the bodies from the well on Monday morning. They were handed over to the family after postmortem.

Police have registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC.
