Couple, 9 aides held for online lottery sale

Erode: The Erode district police on Thursday arrested a couple from Kondureddipalayam near Bhavani and nine of their associates for illegal sale of lottery tickets through WhatsApp.Identifying the key accused in the case as Saravanan and his wife Ezhilarasi, the Bhavani police said they had been selling lottery tickets of other states for the past few months by sharing the ticket numbers on WhatsApp.According to a police officer, the couple had appointed agents in Perundurai, Ammapettai and Chithode to facilitate the illegal sale of lottery tickets. “They promised villagers a large sum of rupees as a jackpot and lured them to be part of their WhatsApp groups.”On Wednesday, the Bhavani police received a complaint about the online lottery fraud and picked up the couple, who spilled the beans on their agents. The officer identified the arrested agents as S Appavu, R Dinesh, S Nagarajan, N Adinarayanan, V Kannusamy, K Rasool, S Suresh, M Velumani and A Ponnusamy.District superintendent of police G Jawahar has warned to track down people involved in illegal sale of lottery tickets. “The wealth they created through illegal means will be seized.” TNN
