Coimbatore: City corporation commissioner

Raja Gopal Sunkara

on Thursday said they have sped up the process of granting approval for building plans for new structures and extension of existing buildings.
Stating that only 28% of the total applications that they received were approved in the beginning of November 2021,

Sunkara

said the town planning department officials had approved another 54.9% applications since then after he instructed them to speed up the process. “Approval will be accorded for the remaining applications, subject to fulfilment of documents required.”
Sunkara also urged people to submit documents online.
Another city corporation official said they had faced some issues while migrating to

UTIS

software, causing files to pile up. “While the entire process was made online, town planning officials made the applicants visit their offices by keeping the applications pending. They have been instructed not to ask the applications to submit documents in person now.”
An engineer said the UTIS software could weed out corruption and bribery, if implemented in letter and spirit.
