Completely burnt body of Coimbatore school teacher found
COIMBATORE: A 53-year-old govt school teacher was found dead with her body completely burnt on a vacant plot near Nachipalayam in Coimbatore on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Padma of Apple Garden in Arisipalayam. She worked as an English teacher at Vallukuparai Government Middle School.
On Tuesday morning, she left home for school on her two-wheeler but did not return in the evening.
Padma's son searched for her in nearby areas late at night but was unable to find her. He then filed a missing person complaint at the Madukkarai police station.
On Wednesday morning, the police found her two-wheeler near Nachipalayam. Around 200 metres away from the vehicle, they discovered her completely burnt body.
An investigating officer said Padma had two children -- a son who is a college student and a daughter who is a lawyer. Her husband died ten years ago, and she was reportedly suffering from depression.
"On Tuesday, she was seen at a nearby petrol station requesting petrol in a can. However, the employees refused to sell it to her. Later, she managed to purchase petrol from another fuel station. Based on our preliminary investigations, we suspect she died by suicide using the petrol. However, this will be confirmed after the postmortem. Our inquiry so far does not indicate foul play," the officer said.
The Madukkarai police registered a case.
