Collector directs officials to relay damaged roads in Coimbatore city

COIMBATORE: District collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar has directed officials of the Coimbatore corporation, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), the state highways and other departments, to relay all the damaged roads in the city.

Major connecting roads, which were damaged by underground drainage and water supply work, have become unmotorable after the recent spells. GN Mills, Appanaickenpalayam, Thudiyalur, Udayampalayam, Masakalipalayam, Nallampalayam, Vellakinar, Bharathi Nagar, Peelamedu, Gandhi Maa Nagar, Ganapathy Maa Nagar and Vilankurichi roads are some of them.

In its May 27 edition, TOI highlighted the plight of the public using these roads. On Thursday, the district collector along with corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran inspected a few roads.

Work on relaying the roads after removing the slush started. This action happened after the collector held a review meeting on Wednesday. The collector directed the authorities to start work on three major roads -- Thudiyalur- Marudhamalai Road, Ganapathy- Kanuvai Road via Maniyakarampalayam and Ramanathapuram-Chettipalayam road via Nanjundapuram — immediately.

In addition to these, other roads within the city limits are being identified for relaying them at the earliest.
