Coimbatore’s four non-functional postal ATMs to be replaced
COIMBATORE: Four postal automatic teller machines (ATMs) in the city, which were installed in 2018 and have become non-functional over the years, will undergo replacement and software update.
The reduced usage of these ATMs was reportedly due to the lack of many ATM cardholders. Issuance of new ATM cards and renewals had not been happening since 2023 because a private vendor had ceased production.
After a two-year hiatus, ATM card distribution has resumed in the city. Postal officials distributed 800 instant cards on a priority basis last week.
K Siva Shankar, senior superintendent of postal offices, Coimbatore postal division, said, “The first batch of ATM cards was distributed. The demand will be met when the second and third batches of ATM cards are delivered, ensuring sufficient cards in stock.”
He said the ATMs had become outdated, and the upgradation process was under way across India. “Therefore, the replacement is expected anytime in the city. The ATM software is being completely upgraded from the previous version. Moreover, the postal ATM cards can be used at other bank ATMs as well. So, it should not be a problem for cardholders. Other bank cardholders can also use these postal ATMs.”
The four postal ATMs xx1are on the Goodshed Road and in RS Puram, Ganapathy and Podanur.
